    Poor Eyesight?
What does your contact prescription have to be to be considered legally blind?

    • Elaine C says:

You’re considered to be legally blind if your vision cannot be corrected to better than 20/200 in your better eye, or if your visual field is 20 degrees or less in your better eye. This info is per the Social Security website. Hope you find it helpful.

what is the connection between poor eyesight and genetics?
Are there certain genes, such as recessive ones, that may cause the automatic deterioration of the eyes that triggers at a certain age? Or any relation to poor eyesight in general?

    • K says:

The connection between poor eye sight and genetics is poor eyesight can be passed down from generation to generation.

The gene will usually be sex-linked, and even if someone did have the gene for poor eyesight, the trait won’t usually emerge until later on in the person’s life.

What is this called? It means (or describes) the poor eyesight people have once they are old?
Like old people always say it that they have this “poor eyesight” and because of that, they cannot see small things clearly

What is the word “poor eyesight”?
    Also, I don’t think it’s called Astigmatism

Is this true? this poor eyesight is ok to get into special forces?
“Eye sight cannot be worse than 20/40 in one eye and 20/70 in the other eye and must be correctable to 20/20.” ->well this means a guy with that poor eyesight can get into the navy seal wearing glasses !? Is that true? Then how about australian special forces?
Do you mean then when a candidate fails the vision test, then he gets the opportunity to get eye surgery?

    • Curt J says:

You seem to be quoting procurement medical standards for the US armed forces. Those standards do not apply to Special Forces, nor should you attempt to apply them to the medical procurement standards of foreign miltaries, as they may vary radically.
